RSPA Launches Matching Gift Challenge to Grow Stanley and Shirley Hayman Founder’s Scholarship

RALEIGH, NC – The Stanley and Shirley Hayman Founder’s Scholarship, the first established scholarship in the history of the RSPA (Retail Solutions Providers Association), plans to expand in 2026 through support of the Hayman family and the RSPA community.

Between now and June 1, the Hayman Family Partnership, including Stanley’s and Shirley’s children and eight grandchildren, will match donations to the Founder’s Scholarship up to $10,000. If a total of $20,000 is raised – $10,000 in community donations and $10,000 from the Hayman family – the scholarship will be expanded from a $3,500 annual award to a $4,500 annual award.

A minimum $500 donation is required to be eligible for the match. The first two $500 donations have already been pledged by Hunter Allen of Cervion Systems and RSPA Hall of Fame member Tom Reichart.

Expansion of the Hayman Scholarship was announced at the RSPA Inspire leadership conference, Feb. 2 in Hawaii.

The Stanley and Shirley Hayman Founder’s Scholarship is named in honor of association co-founding members Stanley and Shirley Hayman who were integral in the development and success of the RSPA Scholarship Program. At that time the organization was named the Independent Cash Register Dealers Association (ICRDA).

“Our parents always believed that education, along with opportunity and hard work, were the keys to future success,” said Alan Hayman, President of Hayman Consulting Group. “On behalf of my sister Carolyn Bernstein, my brother Richard, myself, and the Hayman/Bernstein grandchildren who all earned RSPA scholarships, the Hayman Family Partnership could not be prouder to renew our support for this scholarship and the RSPA as it celebrates 78 years serving its members.”

“Our community is forever grateful to the Hayman family for their positive influence on our members,” said Jim Roddy, President & CEO of the RSPA. “I’m thankful for the incredible work Stanley and Shirley accomplished years ago, and I’m thankful to their children and grandchildren for continuing that legacy of service. We are honored to continue the Haymans’ work through the RSPA Scholarship Program.”

Since the inception of the RSPA Scholarship Program, the RSPA has awarded over 2,000 merit scholarships and nearly $3 million to families of member companies. The children and grandchildren of all RSPA members are eligible for merit-based scholarships to help ease the costs associated with post-secondary education. RSPA scholarships can be applied to vocational schools, community colleges, four-year colleges, and post-graduate education.
