Committees

Committees are the life line between RSPA and the members. It’s a way for members to get involved and provide their expertise to make this association stronger and more beneficial to other members. We encourage readers to take a look at these committees, find one that interests you, and learn more about joining. It’s a great way to have your voice heard and make a difference in the evolution of the retail technology industry.

Education & Certification
The education and certification committee works closely with RSPA’s Education Department to recommend topics of interest for ongoing education to the membership not only at industry events, but throughout the year. It also helps validate the direction of the RSPA educational offerings. In 2008-2009 the committee focused guidance to see the launch of the RSPA Certification program at RetailNOW 2009. The committee will continue to guide the RSPA certification process as it evolves to validate those dealers who have completed the certification training required.

Emerging Technology
The Emerging Technologies committee has a goal of keeping up with the very latest technology in the industry and disseminating that information to RSPA members. Committee members explore emerging technologies that can potentially help RSPA member businesses’. Committee members discuss new technologies and then contact manufactures and distributors to find out more information on the product. The committee, when appropriate, tries to convey our understanding of the technology and the opportunity it presents, through the association’s publications both printed and electronic.

Marketing & Industry Advocacy
The RSPA Industry Advocacy & Marketing Committee was formed in September 2006. The committee’s goal is to promote awareness of RSPA and all its offerings, including the RetailNOW and INSPIRE events; in-person and online educational sessions; and new member benefits such as RSPA Marketing Services. Members of the Marketing Committee also suggest topics and provide content for connect magazine, Juice-news, the RSPA website, RSPA press releases and RSPA marketing materials.

Membership & Awards
The Membership and Awards Committee has a multi faceted mission: assist in growing RSPA’s membership base, insure the current members are welcome, and engaged in the association. Assist in the direction and administration of RSPA’s Awards programs and be available to act as a mediator for any grievances among members or members and non-member businesses in our industry.

PCI Compliance
The PCI Compliance committee was formed to help the retail technology industry better understand the realities and risks of PCI Compliance and to give tier 3 and tier 4 merchants a voice through the companies that deliver their payment technologies. Since July 2006, the committee has been meeting every month, creating mediums to help retail technology professionals and the end users become more comfortable with the language and information surrounding this emerging issue, including the release of the PCI DVD, ‘Are you at Risk?’ In 2009, RSPA joined PCI SSC in an effort to provide RSPA members clarification of the PCI Regulation and Standards and to have voice in the creation and implementation of future standards.

Scholarship
The RSPA Scholarship Committee has been around for nearly 20 years. It was a result of the SDA and ICRDA combining their two scholarship committees when the two organizations joined forces several years ago. At that time, RSPA member Dave Ziletti headed the committee and became passionate about providing financial assistance in order to help children and grandchildren of dealer-members purse their education. Today the committee meets twice a year to manage the criteria, bylaws, procedures of the scholarship program and the annual Scholarship Golf Tournament which now takes place during the annual Winter Inspire Summit.

Vendor Working Group
The Vendor Working Group is comprised of vendors, distributors, ISV partners as well as RSPA Board of Directors. This inclusive group of industry representatives helped develop strategies for RSPA as it transitioned from a dealer association to an industry association. The committee’s main focus is to promote growth of the RSPA membership via expansion of RSPA’s value add and benefit strategies for all members. The committee is instrumental in driving full channel collaboration between the vendors and value-added-reseller member groups by defining the needs and desires of each member group, and how they relate to one another. The committee is also a voice piece to the RSPA membership on industry trends and direction from a vendor perspective.

Dealer-Member Task Force
The Dealer-Member Benefits Task Force compliments the Vendor Working Group by working toward discovering new benefits for RSPA dealer-members. The membership committee took on the initiative of forming a group which sole purpose is to make dealer-members aware of benefits, how to use them, and ultimately let them know they have a voice in this association.

This new committee will be a conduit of information for RSPA dealer-members. It will also be a committee that listens to dealer-member concerns, questions, and suggestions on how to make RSPA better.
