PCIwise for Retail Technology Providers is an online certificate program developed by RSPA to ensure that our members have an understanding of the best practices relating to Payment Card Industry data security practices, and is part of the RSPA Certification Program. The PCIwise series of courses have been created to develop your role as a trusted advisor.

Some of the PCIwise courses are appropriate to share with your end users and customer prospects. The courses provide education on the overall payment processing ecosystem: payment processing retail technology, ongoing support and administration for a PCI compliant system and in-store environment.

Payment Industry Overview 
This course will explain the overall topology and flow of the credit card transaction process - from the originating merchant site or point of sale, through each of the stops in the transaction network including a description of each stop and the relationship to the merchant’s in-house technology and the specific and general PCI Security.

PCI Security Regulations
This course will explain the PCI-DSS regulations, why they were created, and review the twelve current PCI regulations that require compliance. Information will be provided to locate resources available on PCI Security Regulations: PCI-SSC website, VISA website, etc.

PCI Compliant Systems Topology
This course will explain the best practices for traditional wired, wireless, and mobile network topologies and components for Point of Sale (POS) systems found in a merchant store, to include handling of credit, debit and loyalty cards as well as wireless PIN pads. Discussion should extend the network to include dealer support services.

Installing a PCI Compliant POS/Payment Processing System & Environment
This course will highlight key features for installing a traditional wired, wireless, and mobile POS/payment processing system from the merchant location to include debit, credit, and PIN pads as well as dealer support services.

How to Administer & Maintain a PCI Compliant POS System & Environment
This course will recommend best practices for maintaining a PCI compliant POS system and network environment based on the current PCI regulations to include passwords, security parameters, storage of cardholder data, anti-virus software updates, physical access, employee access to data, regular testing across traditional wired, wireless, and mobile networks found in a merchant store and extend the network to include dealer support services.

Providing On-Going Support & Administration for a PCI Compliant System
This course will recommend best practices for providing secure access to traditional wired, wireless and mobile customer networks for updates and maintenance to insure continued PCI compliant POS system and network environment, based on the current PCI regulations.

Recommended Paperwork to Complete a PCI Compliant Installation
This course will explain how the customer sign-off document must be used to engage the merchant in discussion about each of the PCI compliant features of the installed system to gain acceptance/sign-off or merchant refusal/disclaimer. The course will stress the importance of using proper language to explain each item and the ramifications of merchant’s not signing.
